Introduction
In 1997 my life took an unexpected turn. I was diagnosed with
breast cancer at the age of 36. It’s been quite a journey, one which has surprised, delighted, frightened and strengthened me. At the urging of friends and family, I wrote my story which tells of this journey. I’d like to share it with you.
Since being diagnosed with cancer I have often surfed the web looking for information and stories from fellow patients. I’ve learned from them, related to them, and grown in my understanding of what it takes to walk through this maze of choices. It’s been really interesting to see the different choices others have made and how it has affected their life. Some websites are incredible mines of information on the disease, which have been really helpful. But what I’ve loved most are the personal stories told from patients’ experiences. They remind me that I’m not alone. They remind me that there are incredibly strong people in this world doing incredibly wondrous things with their life, in spite of a diagnosis of cancer. My hope is that this book will do the same: encourage, stimulate, inform and perhaps add a different dimension to consider.
You’ll learn through the book that I opted to decline traditional treatments; and instead navigated my way through alternative therapies. I'm so glad I did! It’s been difficult at times to find information from others who have chosen to follow this path. I’m hoping this will change as we open our minds and hearts to looking for other venues of healing. Although I’m a Stage 4 patient at this moment, I am filled with hope for a total healing from cancer. I see myself in my old age surrounded by family and friends, living life to the fullest.
I invite you to read my story and to pass it along to anyone in your circle of love who may benefit from it.
God bless you,
Cheryl
